TOP 10: Hot Wheels 2016 New Models (Licensed)

Now that all of the #2016 New Models have been released, its time to look at our TOP 10 from the licensed side since we already checked out the TOP 10 Hot Wheels 2016 New Models from the UNLICENSED side.

10. Nightburnerz: ’69 Corvette Racer

The was the last 2016 New Model to be released as these showed up in the “Q” cases, but it was definitely worth the wait. While some may think the roll cage on top is a little silly, thats how a vintage Corvette racer from this era would have looked. Its hard to argue with any ’69 Corvette and this one opens our TOP 10.

9. HW Showroom: ’14 Honda Odyssey

Mini Vans definitely don’t appear in the Hot Wheels lineup too often, so when one does, you know there is more than what meets the eye. The ’14 Honda Odyssey wore a racing scheme for this release however (as you can see here) the front-to-back tampos could have been of better quality.

8. HW Showroom: Aston Martin DB10

James Bond would be proud of this one as this Aston Martin is simple and elegant. Shortly after this release, a premium version of it was released as part of the Entertainment line and collectors swooned to that. Still, this mainline version of the casting is fully licensed and makes a great addition to anyone’s collection who chases after those #TV & Movie Cars.

7. Muscle Mania: ’15 Dodge Charger SRT

One year after Hot Wheels released the ’15 Dodge Challenger SRT “Hellcat”, the Charger of the same trim level appeared sporting a red/black color scheme many other Dodge muscle car castings have worn. Shortly after that, a white colorway was released that was strikingly similar to the Dodge Chargers used in Über’s Force Friday Event held on September 4, 2015.

6. HW Hot Trucks: ’17 Ford F-150 Raptor

This popular Ford off-road truck is completely redesigned for 2017 and it finally made its debut under the “Raptor” moniker in 2016. Before we had the Raptor, we had the Sand Blaster which was more of a heavily-modified, #Unlicensed Hot Wheels Raptor. This one got us out of the house and into the desert for some off-road/off-track action.

5. Night Burnerz: Ford Shelby GT350R

Ford had quite the presence this year and this Shelby Mustang was no different. The realistic proportions and ultra-cool body kit make this #Mustang a must-have even for non-Mustang collectors. Given the wealth of Mustang castings in the Hot Wheels stable, its amazing that this new model already ranks among the best.

4. HW Showroom: Porsche 356A Outlaw

Hot Wheels and the Urban Outlaw himself, Magnus Walker formed a pretty cool partnership this year releasing several new Porsches driven and/or designed by the Urabn Outlaw Race Team. This retro Porsche is already a collector favorite and will already be receiving the premium treatment and part of the 2017 Car Culture line’s Air-Cooled Series.

3. Night Burnerz: Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo

Hot Wheels designer Leeway Chang did an absolutely remarkable job reducing this #Lamborghini down to “Hot Wheels scale”. If that wasn’t amazing in itself, the amount of detail in this mainline car is staggering — this is one car you feel like you should be paying more than $1 for. While this wasn’t released until late in the 2016 mainline cases (mix P), every bit of it was worth the wait. It also looks like it will be appearing soon in yellow as a 2017 release.

2. HW Speed Graphics: Nissan Fairlady Z

In 2016, we were treated to yet another car from the garage of Hot Wheels designer, Jun Imai. This time it was his recently completed Fairlady Z that was so cool, this release was selected to appear in the latest version of the popular video game, #Need for Speed. If you found one of these, great, as they did not seem to last too long on the retail peg hooks here.

1. HW Exotics: Renault Sport R.S. 01

The one Hot Wheels new model (licensed) that stole the show in 2016 was this French supercar. This was semi-surprising as Hot Wheels released Renault’s Mégane Trophy in 2011 and it was met with less-than-stellar enthusiasm from collectors. It may have to do with the updated design courtesy of Renault and the attractive graphics done by the Hot Wheels graphics team. Ultimately, this car could have even seen some more detail — something to look forward in a premium release — it was enough to take home our award for the top #2016 New Model (licensed) for 2016.
