HW Hot Trucks: DATSUN 620

It may very well be the best trio released this year in the #2018 Hot Wheels mainline. The #HW Hot Trucks Series release of the #Datsun 620 started out with a bang, and momentum never really slowed down. Months before the first 2018 mainline cars were first seen, we knew that the 620 would show up in the 2018 “A” cases as the Super #Treasure Hunt for that mix. Its common variant sidekick (in mint green) would also be a mix A release, and even that looked so good. Initially, collectors hoarded them, making them hard to find if you were never first to the pegs. Lastly, the #Walmart Exclusive #ZAMAC release showed up as part of 2018 “J” case dump bin back in April. In many cases, the first person to the bin raided all the 620s as they fetched $10 a piece on the secondary market. Collectors bragged about their hauls all over Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites.

Fortunately, I had a couple collectors help me out with the Super #Treasure Hunt and the #ZAMAC as I don’t even think I came close to finding them. I was very thankful for this as this trio is truly too good to pass up — and this is coming from someone who doesn’t even care for the #Datsun 620 casting. The front to back side stripe with a #73 roundel on top, over the door, gave this truck kind of a sporty look which was especially cool since it also had some more modern, camouflage trim.

Toward the rear is what appears to be, a stenciled on “HW-620”, just above the #Japanese Nostalgic Car logo. Normally I wouldn’t call out a small tampo like that, unless it changes or has some sort of backstory. Well, that little tampo does indeed change to “TH-620” on the Super #Treasure Hunt #Variation. In addition to that subtle change, the $TH also has a standard “TH” added to the side deco and a fully tampo’d hood. Its one of those great, visual examples of where the $TH is fully upgraded over its common variant counterpart.

Hot Wheels Datsun 620 from the 2018 HW Hot Trucks Series (Head-to-Head, Super Treasure Hunt vs. Common Variant)

I haven’t heard anything as to whether we will see a 4th #Variation of this #HW Hot Trucks Series release of the #Datsun 620, but with three unknown assortments left for the #2018 Hot Wheels mainline, its entirely possible. Chances are though, if there was, we would have already seen a leaked photo of it — for a casting as popular as the 620. That’s it for today. Happy 6/20 to all you readers out there!
