Mystery Models: MAZDA FURAI

Ever think that a Hot Wheels casting was discontinued, only to have it show up again? I was under the impression that the #Mazda Furai had been discontinued. I’m not 100% sure why, but I seem to recall it was surrounded by a social media rumor that was started when the prices for this casting seemingly skyrocketed overnight in 2016. While those have come back down a ways, the 2010 New Models releases still sell in the neighborhood of $10 a piece. I do recall there was an article on The Lamley Group that talked about the real 1:1 (of 1) burning to a crisp and that the replica 2010 New Models release was a must have. I’m not sure if collectors thought that since the real car was gone, the Hot Wheels casting would likely be discontinued… but as we can see, that certainly was not the case.

The #Mazda Furai showed up in the latest release of the Hot Wheels “pillow packs” known as #Mystery Models. Each assortment is differentiated by the golden car on the packaging for lack of a better point of reference. Since that is the case, this one was found in the assortment that has the Mystery Models “gold” ’05 Batmobile (known as the Tumbler) on it. If you are thinking this Furai wears a familiar graphics scheme, you’ll be delighted to know that its essentially a recolor of the 2012 Faster Than Ever Series release. Overall, its a pretty sharp looking car and its not one to overlook. Check your local Walmarts now as this release should still be readily available.
