#Hot Wheels iD has been good to me. Honestly, I don’t know if I could have placed this many castings I collect in the line if I had been one of the planners. It seems like, with every mix, there has been something that I collect — and since a lot of these are #Unlicensed Hot Wheels designs, it has been extra special to get premium versions of these cars with #Spectraflame Paint and front/rear detail. Case in point: this #Night Shifter.
Technically, the #Hot Wheels iD / Nightburnerz series #Night Shifter is not out yet. It has a November 1st release date. So how did I get my hands on this one? Well, Target stores in certain regions have been stocking future mixes of Hot Wheels iD from the 11/1 and 12/1 drops. I saw that collectors in Texas were finding them as the bulk of these must have been shipped by accident to Target’s distribution center(s) in Texas. I promptly alerted my friend, Tim (@tandphwguide) — who lives in Houston — and he was able to come through for me with a couple of the new iD cars. The lengths we go to as collectors…
At any level, this 2019 #Hot Wheels iD release marks the 10th variant in my Hot Wheels #Night Shifter collection. Just last month I featured the 2020 Hot Wheels mainline “A” case releases: the chase iD one, and the common variant from the HW Race Day segment — so this collection has seen some great updates within the last couple weeks.
The Hot Wheels #Night Shifter is a #Dave Root Design. Dave was actually a design intern back in 2014 and during his tenure at Mattel, he created this casting along with 3 others: Ford Shelby GT350R, and the Princess Peach & Harley Quinn Character Cars. From the moment the Night Shifter was released, it was one of my favorite cars for 2016 as evidenced by the Top 10 article I wrote in September 2016. Since then, we saw a couple more mainline releases before the casting was thrust into a couple themed assortments. Now, with it having a tooling that makes the casting #Hot Wheels iD compatible, it only presents new opportunities for this casting to receive more of a premium treatment.
Let’s face it: unless the collector base shows the kind of affinity I have for the #Night Shifter, it will likely never see use in the adult collector lines. This #Hot Wheels iD release may be as premium as it ever gets. I think when collectors get this one in-hand, it will definitely turn a few onto this car. It should only be a matter of days before this one hits retail. This collector is picking up another one for sure.

I live in Canada Brad…But I got mine a few weeks ago and it came from…Texas! Thanks to a “friend of a friend” who lives there! Happy Camper I am!
Loyal Subjects has the Night Shifter in their line. There is a Red Base Version, A White SDCC Version and a Blue 1/28 Club Version. The Night Shifter is also in the World’s Smallest Hot Wheels line with a Red Common Version and a super rare white version that was only sold in a rally case with two cars instead of the usual one.
Did the white version have red stripes?
If it matters there is also a McDonald’s LiteBlue version reminiscent of the first edition. a little bit bigger all plastic casting came with a piece of track and #3 stickers.
