Replica Entertainment / Toy Story: PIZZA PLANET TRUCK

The #Pizza Planet Truck is one of the most popular animated vehicles of all-time, and yet I would be surprised if its total screen time more than a couple minutes. Its one of the many reoccurring “easter eggs” to appear Disney Pixar movies — and this one has been in every movie since Toy Story (1995). The truck has taken many forms over the years, but this Hot Wheels #Replica Entertainment release replicates the original one seen in that original 1995 #Toy Story movie.

One of the many details adhering to the truck’s exterior is the tailgate that reads, “YO”. Many fans believe the animated truck is based on the real-life Toyota Hilux pickup truck. Its not uncommon for witty Hilux owners to paint the wording so “YO” can stand out on the “TOYOTA” portion of the tailgate. Basing it off the Hilux may have been the original intent since the “YO” does appear in the middle, but to avoid licensing royalties with Toyota, Disney Pixar later clarified that it is a 1978 Gyoza Mark VII, despite the fact that the “YO” would not be centered on the tailgate then.

The Hot Wheels #Replica Entertainment #Pizza Planet Truck from #Toy Story does feature some pretty nice detail. The first thing you notice is the brown patina and silver scratches on the body. Weathered bodies always look cool in diecast form and this one is no exception. Also, despite this being an animated truck, it looks every part of a real one courtesy of the semi-realistic lines of the vehicle. The truck even features replica window graphics and bumper stickers on the rear. Even the “RES1536” license plate is replicated which was a nod to the screen resolution of the original Toy Story (1995).

Hot Wheels has had a long history with the #Toy Story movie franchise dating back to 1998 when Hot Wheels first released a Toy Story Action Pack. The very next year, Hot Wheels released the Toy Story 2 Super Stunt Set and another Action Pack. Below is the #Classic Chevy Nomad that was exclusive to the set. It came with rubber Buzz and Woody that could be attached to the car’s roof. By the time Toy Story 3 (2010) was released, Hot Wheels had released a full line of Toy Story 3 Character Cars. Now, with Toy Story 4 (2019) coming out today, Hot Wheels has done Character Cars, a Themed Assortment, and at least two Replica Entertainment models for 2019 — with one of them being the #Pizza Planet Truck.

The #Pizza Planet Truck comes in mix 3 of Hot Wheels #Replica Entertainment for 2019. Its a great mix that also includes the Deadpool Ice Cream Truck, Rocket League Bone Shaker, 007 Aston Martin DB10, and a Gumball 3000 Subaru WRX Impreza. The mix has just started to appear at retail so look for it now.

The Hot Wheels #Pizza Planet Truck is a great representation of the movie car. Its unlikely we will see this casting again (in another form) as this is a licensed casting. So, if you’re on the fence about this one, pick it up. Its a great multi-piece, all-metal casting that has some incredible detail to it — AND, it sits on #Real Riders of course!
