The #HW Hot Trucks Series #Custom ’56 Ford F-100 is surely one of the Top 10 graphic designs of the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline. Released in a trio of matte colors, this rendition of the customized ’56 #Ford #Truck features a nice, vintage-looking door deco, but its the tampo’d rust pattern that steals the show.Sure, the weathered look and rust have been done before, but you don’t really see it on Hot Wheels cars all that often so its nice to see this kind of change-up amidst all the flaming metalflake hot rods out there. Combine the rust with the matte colors and its really just a fun look for this great #Custom ’56 Ford F-100 casting.
The first colorway to appear this year was the matte light gray one that appeared as part of the “E” case assortments — which proved to be released in limited quantities initially but have now surfaced at many of the overstock retailers and dollar stores. You may remember this assortment for the car everyone seemed to grab, the GMG Corvettte. Not to be overlooked — as I may have done to myself in pursuit of the Corvette — is this matte light gray colorway that was one of the, if not the, first Hot Wheels vehicle to feature the #Steelie 8-Spoke Wheels.Released almost concurrently was the #Kmart Exclusive, matte light blue colorway that showed up in the cases at the February 18th, Kmart Collector’s Day Event. Since the gray and the blue colorways feature the same color windows, interior, base, and wheels, its only the addition of the blue pigment that separates these two. Lastly, the matte olive green colorway showed up a couple months ago as part of the 2017 “K” case assortments. This time, not only the body changed colors, but the base and wheel type changed as well. With the darker, matte olive green color, the rust almost appears to look more like mud — giving it sort of a new look altogether.
I believe we are done seeing this #HW Hot Trucks Series release of the #Custom ’56 Ford F-100 this year so I would be remiss to say that I kind of wish there was an alternative, “non-rusted” colorway done up in some candied finish. …You know, to kind of give the “now & then” look to all the colorways of the truck this year — rusted versus clean. Either way, this is a personal favorite in terms of graphic design for this year. How do you feel? Does this one measure up to your favorite graphics for the year?
