Here we are in day 4 of #Night Breed Week and we have an unlicensed Hot Wheels casting named, Flight ’03. While I’m the first to admit that I don’t know much about this casting, Please allow for me to point a few things out.
First, the Flight ’03 was designed by Hot Wheels Designer, Mark Jones. Mark notoriously designed the Hyper Mite and the Hot Seat–his first casting, the Pipe Jammer, was actually 1 of 3 cars that got me into collecting! If you would like to read about more Mark Jones castings, click the #Mark Jones Designs tag on this article.
There have been quite a few collectors speculate as to which real car the Flight ’03 is based off of. There have been a few that have mentioned the 2002 Acura RSX as the inspiration for the Flight ’03 but not much past the front of the car resembles it. The Flight ’03 is unique in a sense that its body kit (shown in gray here) is actually part of the interior. Its the body kit that almost makes this car seem like a bosozoku-style car, just not to the bosozoku extreme.
The Night Breed 5-Pack release of the Flight ’03 is one of the casting’s best releases. Having not seen a premium line, the Flight ’03 is limited in high-quality/highly-detailed releases. So, for me, its only fitting to elevate the one Flight ’03 with Spectrafrost Orange paint towards the top of the list–if not, the very top! While this casting has had quite a few releases since its introduction in 2003, its been mostly relegated to multi-packs as an exclusive car.
