The Hot Wheels Legends Tour officially kicked off for 2020 in Miami on March 7th. A winner was crowned while the Coronavirus was in the back of everyone’s mind. That didn’t stop the thousands of people who showed up though, as they were rewarded with the first couple of exclusives for the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in 2020: the #’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser and this #Hot Wheels iD #Bone Shaker.

Leading up to the event, little was known about the #Hot Wheels iD / #Hot Wheels Legends Tour: Bone Shaker. If it weren’t for a Hot Wheels iD app upgrade on March 1, there probably would have been even more shocked collectors than there were. Everyone expected the #’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser to be this year’s Legends Tour Vending Truck grab, but no one guessed that Walmart had a trick of their own with the Hot Wheels iD Bone Shaker. So you can imagine the look on the faces of the collectors who walked into Walmart in Doral, Florida that day when Walmart was selling these for $5 — as reportedly by the collectors at the event. Thanks to a pair of collectors that were at the event, they were able to get me the #Bone Shaker specifically to share with the collectors here on OTD. Thanks to John and his wife!

If this release of the #Bone Shaker looks familiar to you, it could be one of a few things. First, if you followed the #Hot Wheels Legends Tour all the way up through SEMA last year, you may have noticed that the Hot Wheels 1:1 Bone Shaker had a wardrobe change just before the show, scrapping its 50th Anniversary “Ultimate Chase” deco for this new matte red color. Apparently, that was a 2020 preview as that is (or was) what the Bone Shaker will be touring in for 2020 — provided the tour doesn’t get postponed further. In addition to that, we also saw the Legends Tour Bone Shaker appear in the #2020 Hot Wheels mainline already this year in matte red — despite the bulk of collectors not knowing that this would be the deco the 1:1 would wear this summer.

The #2020 Hot Wheels mainline release was released in the HW Dream Garage segment which is a take on the cars in the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends — a garage full of full-size cars at Mattel HQ in El Segundo. It is the hardtop version of the casting whereas this #Hot Wheels iD release has the original open roof concept. As you can see above, the deco may be the same, but the color varies from matte red to spectraflame red, the “interior piece” from chrome to gold-chrome, and the wheels from Steelie 8-Spoke wheels to #iD5 Wheels.
This is officially the second #Hot Wheels iD #Bone Shaker to be released thus far in the physical form as a third will be coming as a mainline iD chase piece based off the 2020 HW Art Cars series release in green. The first release came last year in the inaugural year of Hot Wheels iD. That release — as seen below — was rather unique with rust-style graphics over a glowing spectraflame aqua body.

All signs point to the Hot Wheels Legends Tour continuing once the COVID-19 pandemic is over and we have done our part to “level the curve”. When that happens, the #Bone Shaker will be available at any remaining stops for 2020, and you’ll be able to see how nice this car is — in physical and digital forms. It’s great that Hot Wheels essentially allowed you to take home a piece of the tour with you, partnering with Walmart to sell these replicas of the real car — and there is no doubt that these will be highly sought after.

Dang. I could’ve gotten one of these in Tampa, but corona virus is getting too spooky. Though Mattel is taking proper measures.
Can we order these anywhere?
Yes, you can find them on eBay. Just keep looking for the cheapest price.
