Gran Turismo Series: RENAULT SPORT R.S. 01

Sometimes you just know you like a new casting, right? You say to yourself, “Wow, I want to get every one of these!” upon finding that initial release. That was my sentiment in 2016 when the Hot Wheels #Renault Sport R.S. 01 made its debut, which I proceeded to collect immediately. We are now in the third year of this casting and there are six variants to show for it. 2016 yielded the yellow and silver ones, while the red and light blue ones showed up in 2017 — with all four being in the mainline HW Exotics segment for their respective years. This year, the Renault Sport R.S. 01 ventured out of the mainline, however, it stayed within the basic range as it was released in the 2018 HW Exotics 5-Pack in orange and in the #Gran Turismo Series in gray.

You want to know why I love the Hot Wheels #Renault Sport R.S. 01? Well, first the casting is amazing. I’m still not sure who on the Hot Wheels Design Team designed it, but the open sides in the metal body allow for the interior color to come through creating a very nice color break. Also, the spoiler came out crisp, well-proportioned, and the “RENAULT” that is cast into it was a nice touch since it really doesn’t require a tampo now. NOTE: For you novice collectors, “tampo” is a term that is used to describe the process in which the graphics were applied.

Speaking of the graphics, the ones on this #Gran Turismo Series release of the #Renault Sport R.S. 01 certainly give the car a premium look. More specifically, the windshield graphic and the ones on the sides of the wings are something you don’t see on the average basic-level car, but its this great casting that offers the ability.

No word yet on where the #Gran Turismo Series will show up at retail in the United States. However, it seems as though this series is reserved for the non-big box stores and the hobby dealers. Think back to 2016, and that is very similar to how the Gran Turismo Series for that year was released. If that’s the case, we could see these at Walgreen’s later in the year. For now, the only way to get this series is to order from a hobby dealer OR you can get the set off Amazon for a decent price (currently at $22).
