I can’t say that I’ve ever led with a base shot before but this one carries some historical significance pertaining to Hot Wheels. If you examine the base of this #Surf’s Up 5-Pack release of the #’64 Chevy Nova Station Wagon you’ll notice there is a new country of origin embossed into the base — Indonesia. Though the new Hot Wheels factory has been up and running since the beginning of 2017, you’ll first start noticing Hot Wheels with the “made in Indonesia” designation in a couple of the newer 2017 5-Packs.

When and where the “made in Indonesia” Hot Wheels will show up is anyone’s guess outside of Mattel, as we’ve only seen them in the 5-Packs so far. But, judging by the quality of the graphics on the five cars in this 5-Pack, you could assume that they are off to a good start, and more Hot Wheels lines will be headed their way. This Mattel-owned, Indonesian plant may be new to the Hot Wheels world, but before it started producing the cars we all love, this plant actually manufacturer another one of Mattel’s flagship brands — Barbie.

Both Barbie and Hot Wheels had seen Baywatch (the TV series) licensing back in the ’90s. Hot Wheels even had a Baywatch 5-Pack back in the day. So while that license isn’t in play, despite the new Baywatch movie coming out earlier this year, the 2017 #Surf’s Up 5-Pack is full of some sweet beach rescue vehicles. NOTE: The other ones can be seen in the gallery at the bottom of this article. Of those five vehicles included in this 5-Pack, I think I would give the best execution to the white #’64 Chevy Nova Station Wagon which features graphics that say “RESCUE” and “BEACH PATROL”.

Designed by Hot Wheels designer — turned Matchbox designer — Abe Lugo, the #’64 Chevy Nova Station Wagon first appeared in 2013. Its had a handful of releases over the short span of 4 years, but that doesn’t include the paneled version of this casting known as the ’64 Chevy Nova Delivery which has only been released in the #Pop Culture line a few times. The casting’s place in this 5-Pack seems very fitting as this would be the type of car you could expect to be parked at a Southern California beach — most likely with surfboards sticking out the back. Look for this release of the ’64 Chevy Nova Station Wagon as the “made in Indonesia” #Surf’s Up 5-Pack is in stores now.
