Wheels #Variations. For the longest time, I didn’t even recognize them in my own collection because collecting in the ’90s yielded all types of them. Back then, production of a specific mainline car could last months versus the several weeks we see now. It was often rumored that when one type of wheel would run out at the factory, the workers would simply add another wheel type to the assembly line. Today’s wheel variations seem a little more controlled as there typically isn’t more than one transition in a given colorway.

This year, the Hot Wheels #Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo from the #HW Speed Graphics Series appeared as part of the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline “E” case assortment. Though the artwork on the blister card shows this #Lamborghini wearing #10-Spoke Wheels, the common wheels were the #PR5 Wheels.

The #10-Spoke Wheel #Variation of the #Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo seemed to be limited to the early run of these cars as most of them ended up in the international assortments and in the multi-packs. A quick “base check” of the two you see here reveal that the 10SP variation has a “J44” base code whereas the PR5 variation has a “J48” base code — meaning they were produced in the 44th & 48th weeks of 2016. Given the sample size of just these two, I can’t say this definitively, but it lends a little bit of truth to the 10SP variation being an early run before something changed over.

As for the casting itself, the Hot Wheels #Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo was released just last year and there was no doubt it was one of the TOP 10: 2016 New Models. This 2017 release in the #HW Speed Graphics Series only comes in this yellow #33 #Lamborghini paint scheme so far, but the “P” and “Q” case assortments for this year are yet to be revealed.
