The Hot Wheels #Car Culture / Race Day series started hitting Target at the beginning of the month and it has already begun showing up and the other retailers that carry the line. Noticeably, the car that appears to be a must have (out of the 5-car series) is the #’01 Acura NSX — which goes by the non-vintaged, “Acura NSX” for this and most of its previous releases.

This #Acura #NSX turned #Race Car came as a little bit of a surprise (for this line) since this casting never had a metal base before, but its inclusion now makes perfect sense. Originally introduced in 2008 as part of the 2008 New Models, the Hot Wheels #’01 Acura NSX last appeared in 2014. For some reason, Hot Wheels collectors were never really drawn to this #Kevin Cao Designed, Acura Race Car. Three years later, rocking the #96 #Advan paint scheme and a wide-body metal base, this #Car Culture release has collectors hitting the secondary sales sites in search of previous releases.

As you can see in the images above and below, the base of this #’01 Acura NSX casting has been retooled past the standard plastic-to-metal upgrade. The wide-body base gives this casting the true #Race Car feel the original tool lacked. Look at it! Compared side-to-side, it just looks faster than the 2009 Hot Wheels Racing Series release next to it.

As I mentioned earlier, this #Car Culture / Race Day series release of the #’01 Acura NSX is flying off pegs faster than the other four cars in this series. That right there is impressive considering the other four cars are terrific in their own respects and the fact that this car, despite having two really cool #Speed Machines releases in 2010, has never really been coveted by collectors. Sure, we have that whole #JDM craze going on right now, but still, its an impressive retool that is hopefully around for years to come.
