Fast. Furious. Ford Escort. Those words did not really go together until Fast & Furious 6 introduced us to the ’70 Ford Escort RS1600. Growing up, if you knew someone with a Ford Escort they could care less about the performance of their vehicle as the name “Escort” was applied to several compact cars made by Ford in the U.S. starting in 1981. If you grew up in Europe, you’re going to have a completely different perspective on the Ford Escort as it was the successor to the Ford Anglia and the higher trim levels were successful rally cars.
The American perspective changed ever-so-slightly with the inclusion of this vehicle in Fast & Furious 6 in the famous “tank scene” shown here:
Quite the scene that was! Its no wonder that when Hot Wheels decided to release this Ford Escort, it became an instant hit. Introduced as part of the Hot Wheels mainline, in the HW Garage Series, the Escort may be a little easier to find than the cars from the Fast & Furious line that were released exclusively at Walmart and hoarded like crazy.
Since Paul Walker’s death in November 2013, the demand has increased for all the cars driven by his character, Brian O’Conner, in the Fast & Furious movies. Time will only tell, demand should go down on this one as supply seems to be high, but as of right now, its not lasting on the pegs very long. If you’re a fan of the Fast & Furious cars, this one is a must have! Look for it to appear in white next as a color variation of this one. It should appear in basic Hot Wheels assortments soon.
