Can you believe The Fast and the Furious (2001) came out 25 years ago? I remember this distinctly. It was the last movie I saw the summer before I started college. I couldn’t wait to get into my 1990 Toyota Celica and drive it a little more aggressive than normal back to my dorm. As a collector at the time, I immediately began dreaming of all the movie cars Hot Wheels could make from this movie. Little did I know that I would have to wait 12 more years to see the first Fast & Furious vehicles in the Hot Wheels lineup. Fast-forward another 13 years and I now have over 400 unique Fast & Furious vehicles in my collection spanning 10+ movies, an animated series, and some cool mashups.
This series/mix honors the 25th Anniversary of the The Fast and the Furious (2001) by painting — or in one case, unpainting — five vehicles from that first movie in shades of silver since the 25th anniversary is known as the “silver anniversary”.
#1/5 ‘93 Honda Civic Coupé EX EJ1
The ’93 Honda Civic Coupé EX EJ1 is known as the “Heist Civic” because it was one of three black Civics with green underglow used to highjack trucks carrying electronics. The heists literally put the wheels in motion for the premise of the whole movie, introducing “Brian Earl Spilner” to Dom’s crew. This one gets a metalflake silver paint job while retaining it’s black spoiler.
#2/5 ’70 Dodge Charger R/T
Dom’s ’70 Dodge Charger R/T and Brian’s Toyota Supra were the first two Fast & Furious vehicles Hot Wheels introduced in 2013. 13 years later, we’ve seen them releases numerous times. More on the Supra in a moment. The ’70 Dodge Charger R/T is the only car in this series to not be painted a shade of silver as it gets the bare-metal, ZAMAC treatment. It’s also the first time we see it with the new(er) Silver Series AcceleRacers 6-Spoke (AR6) wheels.
#3/5 ’95 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Brian’s bright green ’95 Mitsubishi Eclipse gets painted silver for this mix while the graphics are essentially converted to grayscale. Check out the unboxing video below to get the true scope of how this one compares to it’s bright green Fast & Furious Silver Series counterpart.
#4/5 ’95 Mazda RX-7
The ’95 Mazda RX-7 has been released a bunch of times in the Hot Wheels Fast & Furious lineup. We’ve seen it in Dom’s livery, in the HKS livery (from the race wars scene), and even in the “Orange Julius” deco from 2 Fast 2 Furious. It’s Dom’s version — which is the most iconic — which has seen the most releases though. We’ve seen it in several shades of red including a spectraflame chase car in Fast & Furious Premium this year. In this mix, it gets metalflake dark silver paint while the graphics are converted to grayscale much like the Eclipse.
#5/5 Toyota Supra
Brian’s infamous “10 second car” in the Toyota Supra rounds out this mix. It is definitely the darkest shade of silver, encroaching upon black chrome territory. This one looks amazing next to it’s bright orange counterpart! Check it out in the unboxing video below.
I was able to buy a case of the Walmart Exclusive, Fast & Furious Silver Series / 25th Anniversary (mix Q) off of eBay for a decent price. I did so primarily because I wanted to share the case breakdown in the event that these cases are not even assortments. I also did it because finding a whole set of Silver Series in-store has not been easy for me, and this set has been especially hard to find! I unboxed one of these 10-count cases on the OTD YouTube Channel within the full Case Report that you see here.
