’83 Chevy Silverado
18th Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals
RELEASE YEAR: 2018 • CASTING DESIGNER: Jun Imai

Two weeks ago, Collectors Events Unlimited — the folks that put on the annual Nationals & Conventions — unveiled the #’83 Chevy Silverado as one of two souvenir vehicles for the upcoming 36th Annual Collectors Convention in LA in October. My social media news feeds blew up with collectors reposting the image below over and over again.

There is no doubt that the #’83 Chevy Silverado has become one of the top Hot Wheels of all-time. The collector response to every release of the casting is usually nothing short of a thunderous applause. Chevrolet squarebody trucks are “in” right now and the values of some of the more sort after releases are through the roof!
Ten years after the debut of the #’83 Chevy Silverado in the Modern Classics line (2008) — a release that sells for north of $200 now — the casting made its first Hot Wheels convention debut at the 18th Annual Nationals event which was in Dallas, Texas that year (2018). Collectors were stoked as the Nationals release had a two-tone paint scheme just like the aforementioned Modern Classics release, and many bought their full allotment knowing they would be able to flip their extras for a nice profit, or trade for other desirable #Convention Vehicles of years past.

A little over four years later, the value of the lone convention/nationals release of the #”83 Chevy Silverado has climbed to just under $200 — with some “Buy It Nows” on eBay exceeding that. At 5,000 pieces, this release is actually one of the more limited for the casting whose lone HWC/RLC release (2009) has reached “grail status” in the eyes of many collectors netting over $1,300 on the open market. It is to be expected that this Nationals release will climb in value as we get closer to October as the new convention release (shown above) will certainly have some collectors going back and grabbing this one.

WOW! I had no idea. Makes me glad I made the trek to Dallas that year.
