Batman Vehicles: LAMBORGHINI MURCIÉLAGO

Perhaps one of the coolest #TV & Movie Cars that Hot Wheels has come out with is the #Lamborghini Murciélago from the 2018 #Walmart Exclusive #Batman Vehicles Series. Its the car Bruce Wayne is seen driving in The Dark Knight (2008) — yes, that’s the one with the Heath Ledger iteration of The Joker. In the scene before Bruce is seen driving the Murciélago — which actually translates to “The Bat” — him and his butler, Alfred Pennyworth have the following conversation:

Alfred: Will you be taking the Batpod, sir?
Bruce: In the middle of the day, Alfred? Not very subtle.
Alfred: The Lamborghini, then.
[with deadpan sarcasm]
Alfred: Much more subtle.

The Hot Wheels #Lamborghini Murciélago casting is not new by any means. It actually made its debut in the 2003 First Editions (yellow variant below). The real car was made from 2001 to 2010, and The Dark Knight came out in 2008; therefore, this was indeed the perfect casting to use. As far as the color, I believe a glossier gray would have been more spot on — in terms of movie accuracy — but the matte steel blue actually looks better in my humble opinion.

Below is that aforementioned 2003 First Edition in yellow, with the other 2018 release of the #Lamborghini Murciélago (Fast & Furious series) in orange. Sandwiched in-between them is the black sheep of the group, the #Batman Vehicles Series release in matte steel blue, which was a #Walmart Exclusive.

The Hot Wheels #Lamborghini Murciélago casting is not among my favorites as far as Hot Wheels #Lamborghinis are concerned — there are just much better Lambo castings out there. However, I have actually thought it would be fun to collect it as of late because it has been released in so many colors and each release has come pretty well-detailed, thanks to the front headlight and rear taillight treatment this casting tends to receive.

The 2018 #Walmart Exclusive, #Batman Vehicles Series the #Lamborghini Murciélago came in is not as fun to collect however. It was a 6-car set that came out earlier this year. Of the six vehicles, the #Lamborghini was really the only “new” car in it as the other #Batmobiles had appeared in similar #Batman series in years-past.

Where this series did stand out from the prior iterations of #Batman themed assortment series is the blister card artwork. It was truly a great selling point, as each vehicle was featured prominently on the card with the logo of the film it was featured in, above it.

Speaking of that, have you noticed the mistake?

This blister card features The Dark Knight Rises (2012) on it, rather than The Dark Knight (2008). I have seen both movies a good number of times and don’t recall the Murciélago ever being in the one where Bane takes over Gotham. I could be wrong, but I think its only appearance was in the 2008 film in the scene I posted at the bottom of this article.

The #Lamborghini Murciélago was definitely the hardest vehicle in the 2018 #Batman Vehicles Series to find, for the reasons I stated above. I knew the #TV & Movie Car collectors would be all over this one, but it was also the collectors that love, nice & clean #Exotics castings that also felt the need to buy several. In the end, Hot Wheels put out another great #Lamborghini release that could be had for about $1. Bruce Wayne approves, collectors approve, and more importantly, my bank account approved. Cheers to that!
