Six of the ten #HW 50th Race Team cars for 2018 have been released through the #2018 Hot Wheels “M” case assortment so far. Coming in mix “N” we will see two more in the new Dune Daddy casting and this #’70 Plymouth Roadrunner — with the last two (HW50 and ’70 Ford Escort RS1600) following in mix “P”, presumably. Since mix “N” technically hasn’t hit retail in the U.S. yet, I was fortunate however, to have found the #Roadrunner as part of a 20-Pack . So consider this a little bit of a sneak peek for you if you haven’t already seen it.

The #’70 Plymouth Roadrunner — along with the other 9 cars this year — feature a new #Hot Wheels Race Team design for the 50th Anniversary. Included as part of that design is an exclusive wheel (so far) which I have termed the #Logo Slot Wheel since it features the 50th logo on a slot style wheel, simple enough right? Since I haven’t showcased any of these cars yet, let me say something about the paint. The matte blue on these cars is amazing! The Hot Wheels logos, numbers, and various other graphics seem to pop right off of it. Its got this electric feel to it, and its a color (and style of paint) that I really hope we see more of. This may very well be one of my favorite renditions of the ’70 Plymouth Roadrunner casting, and given its rich release history, that is saying something.
Speaking of the #’70 Plymouth Roadrunner, collectors may recall one of the only knocks against it is that the driver’s side, front wheel always appeared to sit back in the wheel well. See the picture below for reference. If you glance down you will see that this casting issue appears to be resolved as the 2018 release appears to have gone under a slight retooling. Great news, right!?!?!

Look for this matte blue, #Hot Wheels Race Team #8 #’70 Plymouth Roadrunner in the upcoming #2018 Hot Wheels “N” case assortments, and subsequently the “P” cases as well. The “N” cases should be in U.S. retailers by the end of July, but if you absolutely can’t wait (like me), check those 9- & 20-Packs as I’ve now seen them containing this #Roadrunner multiple times at both Target and Walmart.
