Legends of Speed (2018 New Model): PORSCHE 917 LH

Its safe to say that the Hot Wheels #Porsche game is strong right now. The #2018 Hot Wheels lineup brings us new models such as the ’71 Porsche 911, Porsche 918 Spyder, and this #Porsche 917 LH — but the Hot Wheels / Porsche relationship didn’t just start to flourish this year. Rather, its been several years in the making as recent years have brought us a wealth of Porsche castings which the team at Hot Wheels have heavily-inserted in the majority of their lines, from basic to Car Culture.

With all the excitement over #Porsche, comes the #First Edition of the #Porsche 917 LH, making its debut in the #Legends of Speed Series (2018). To say collectors are excited for this one is an understatement as many are already proclaiming this release as their favorite mainline car of the year.

Hot Wheels already has a Porsche 917 and a #Porsche 917K casting, but never have we seen the LH “long-tailed” version of the famous 917. Call it the “917-trifecta”, call it “long-overdue”, Hot Wheels collectors have clamored for this car for a long time and now it is showing up as part of the #2018 Hot Wheels “F” cases.

The collector-craze doesn’t stop there however. See, the team at Hot Wheels really knows how to pique collector interest seeing how they decided to slap the mega-popular, #Gulf Racing livery on this one to give it a look that is straight out of 1971. The black #18 placed inside the white roundel is a nice touch considering it is a #2018 Hot Wheels release. NOTE: It was pointed out to me after this article posted that this is a replica of the Porsche 917 LH driven by the Rodriguez/Oliver team at Le Mans in June 1971.

Its also worth noting that this is now the second licensed car from the #Project Cars 2 game which is shaping up to be a nice partnership.Β For all you Project Cars 2 guys, I don’t believe this is a playable car (yet!) in the game, however, I did some perusing on the game’s message boards and many believe it will be a bonus car that will be available at a later date.

If you are a #Porsche and/or a Hot Wheels collector, and all of this seems too good to be true, let me remind you that this car retails for $1. Whaaaat??? A killer, vintage racing casting in the mainline? Yep!

If you’re looking who to thank for this monstrous feat, look no further than Hot Wheels Designer, Dmitriy Shakhmatov. Dima has already had a huge impact on the #2018 New Models lineup, but he knocked this one out of the park. The #Dmitriy Shakhmatov Designed #Porsche 917 LH features a metal body and a plastic base — both in this case were colored #Gulf Racing powder blue. Both pieces come together at the front of the car to surround the casting’s clear plastic headlights, another magnificent touch.

As I mentioned earlier, the Hot Wheels #Porsche 917 LH just started hitting retail in the United States as part of the #2018 Hot Wheels “F” case assortment. This #Legends of Speed release in #Gulf Racing livery is one you don’t want to waver on at the pegs, at least, not right now. This one will surely be hot for the next month or so — and, appropriately so, with many collectors chasing a legitimate candidate for best #2018 New Model.
