For as cool as the Hot Wheels #Replica Entertainment line is, it is always cool when a beloved movie car lands in the mainline. There is no better deal in the diecast world than a replica car from one of your favorite movies for $1. That, in a sense, is why collectors scurried from store to store in search of this famous #TV & Movie Car. Using the existing Hot Wheels #Volkswagen Beetle casting, #Herbie the Love Bug made his debut in the #2014 Hot Wheels mainline.

Hot Wheels also released a premium version of Herbie in 2014 in the #Replica Entertainment line (known as Retro Entertainment then). While that version of the famous #Volkswagen Beetle had more detail and featured #Real Riders wheels, I insist that I was happier to have the mainline version for $1 — versus the $5 premium one. In addition to the price difference, this mainline variant featured the raked look, with the larger rear wheels, and could be raced on track. I remember grabbing several of these in fear we would never see Herbie at the $1 price point again. Four years later, we still haven’t.
#Herbie the Love Bug may never see the Hot Wheels mainline again so if you are trying to find this release, it fell under the #HW Workshop / #HW All Stars Series in the #2014 Hot Wheels mainline. If you don’t have it, its pretty much a must-have as it combines two classics: the #53 Herbie design, and the #Larry Wood Designed, Hot Wheels #Volkswagen Beetle casting, which has been a collector favorite since it was introduced in 1989.
