Retro Style Series: ’69 DODGE CHARGER DAYTONA

How has your luck been with finding the #’69 Dodge Charger Daytona from the Hot Wheels #Retro Style Series? Considering how well stock moves at your local Target may have been a factor as this series was a #Target Exclusive. However, that wasn’t the only factor that limited the availability of this white-winged warrior. Rather, it was the poor assortment mixes of the #2017 Hot Wheels Retro Style Series that prevented this last mix from being regularly circulated on the pegs.

Why were the assortments poor? Well, the line was stuffed with repeated releases of the cars from 2016, which is always a big no-no in the Hot Wheels collecting world as — short of these being uber popular repeats — they tend to warm the pegs … which was the case here. So with a few actual new 2017 releases, like this #Charger Daytona, most collectors only saw remnants of the 2016 series which were actually released in the 2017 mixes — and, with the #’69 Dodge Charger Daytona being in the last mix for 2017, at lot of stores only got limited supply of this assortment, if at all. Sounds like a story we’ve heard before.

After striking out at all my local Targets, I asked a friend to pick this one up for me if he saw it while hunting — which he did, and I am thankful for because, I still haven’t seen it. Now, with Target’s 2018 modular reset, I fear the run of this series may be over to make room for what looks to be a #Target Exclusive Decades series.

Secondary market prices don’t really seem to be effected at this point as this car seems to be selling anywhere between $5- to $10-shipped. However, I do expect that number to climb a little once the seemingly limited supply of these dries up, but that isn’t going to be the only factor with this release.

There was arguably, no better “retro-styled” vehicle in the #Retro Style Series than this #’69 Dodge Charger Daytona. The casting is usually pretty popular with collectors already, and given this retro-inspired, #Steve Vandervate Graphic design, this #69 #Charger Daytona looks like it is straight off a vintage race track.

This was the first of two releases of the #Jun Imai Designed #’69 Dodge Charger Daytona in 2017. The second ended up appearing in the Muscle Mania 5-Pack in a cool electric blue enamel. Both releases were among my favorite #2017 Hot Wheels, so hopefully we will see more of this casting in 2018.

  1. I was lucky enough to find this beauty in my Target about a month ago. There was only one on the peg and I have not seen it again.

  2. Only reason i bought them is because it looks cool…had no problem seeing these at Target…probably have at least 10 and I always left a few on the pegs.
