Okay, since I stated it yesterday that we couldn’t have #Mongoose without #Snake (and vice versa). Today, we have #Don Prudhomme‘s Snake Funny Car from the same 2005 #Mongoose & Snake Drag Race Set. It was Don Prudhomme’s appearance at Barrett-Jackson this last weekend here in Phoenix, that served as the catalyst for me to finally do a #Snake & Mongoose showcase here at Orange Track Diecast.
First, let me start out with saying that the car pictured here is an #Error as the left front wheel was double-stamped by the foil machine. Aside from that, this #Don Prudhomme #Snake #Funny Car has a body that opens up, just like the Mongoose Funny Car from yesterday.
While it may be impossible to tell if #Mongoose or #Snake sold more cars … without Mattel’s stats, it always seemed like Snake was the fan favorite. I’m not sure if its the yellow, the mascot or people just preferred the #Barracuda over the #Duster Funny Car, but Snake releases tend to be more desirable in the Hot Wheels world.
Just like the “Mongoose” #Plymouth Duster Funny Car, the #Plymouth Barracuda Funny Car was an original 1970s casting that was retooled in 1994 for the vintage series. We still see this re-tooled Hot Wheels Vintage casting today as all modern releases of this car have the vintage logo on its base. That same vintage casting has been released several times with the majority of its “non-Snake” releases coming between 2005 & 2007. In that 3-year period, this casting saw this #Playset Exclusive release, a Hot Wheels mainline release, a RLC sELECTIONs release, and several colorways in the Hot Wheels Classics Series 2. Since the casting has appeared in the Hot Wheels Classics and won a RLC sELECTIONs bracket in 2006, you would have to consider this casting among Hot Wheels Collectors’ all-time favorites!
