The Auto Milestones line of 2002 was exclusive to Walmart stores and featured 16 classic cars that redefined the auto industry. 15 of the 16 cars were adorned with Real Rider tires and all cars featured their own auto milestone blurb on back of their card (which was sealed in a plastic shell).
The only complaint about the series was the Hot Wheels Milestones 2002 logo that was emblazoned on the vehicles. It seemed to throw off the classic aspect of these otherwise, greatly-detailed classic cars. Check out that “COBRA427” Illinois license plate, painted gas cap and those iconic oval tail lights!
Fortunately, the Milestones logo only appeared on the passenger side of the Shelby Cobra from this line — leaving the driver’s side nice and clean!
The Shelby Cobra 427 S/C is such a nicely designed car that is truly a timeless piece. To me, its that car that defined Carroll Shelby. Hot Wheels has also been known to pay tribute to the late designer through various Carroll Shelby specific releases (using this vehicle). Its one of those timeless American sports car designs that never grows old. The design is so popular that you can even build your own 1:1 real-life kit car.
The Hot Wheels Shelby Cobra 427 S/C was designed by Larry Wood and does Carroll Shelby’s original design great justice. It captures the essence behind the great design and even features an opening hood that reveals its V8 engine. Originally released as part of the 1983 Hot Ones in its iconic blue with white racing stripes, the Cobra is still released to this day. Currently, over 70 variations of this casting have been released — including this 2002 Auto Milestones release!
