For a while, it seemed as though the Hot Wheels casting, Way 2 Fast, was a staple of the Hot Wheels lineup. Having been released as a mainline vehicle, a promotional vehicle, a Treasure Hunt, and in a slew of other premium lines, the Way 2 Fast was definitely a collector favorite. Yes, we are speaking of the Way 2 Fast in the past tense because it seems as though its run has ended, having last been released in 2009 as part of the Modified Rides Series. Check out other #Discontinued Castings.
This heavily modified sedan features a chopped top, along with an elongated base to fit not one, but two engines! Hence the replacement of “too” with “2” in the casting’s name. Designed by Bruce Baur (Hot Wheels Designer from 1993 to 1997), the Way 2 Fast one of his last designs at Hot Wheels. Bruce’s other notable designs consisted of the Rigor-Motor, Power Pipes and the 2nd generation castings: Silhouette II, Splittin’ Image II and Twin Mill II.
The Way 2 Fast shown below is its initial release from the 1997 First Editions. Done in hot rod orange, chrome engine headers and a checkered-flag roof deco, this casting really stood out and collectors and kids alike really took a liking to its flashy personality and decent gravity track performance.
