HW Showroom / All Stars Series (2013 New Model): FERRARI F12 BERLINETTA

While Mattel and Ferrari are still at a standoff in terms of their licensing agreement that ended in 2015, we look at a Ferrari model that was recently introduced–the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. A new model for 2013, this Ferrari was introduced as part of the All Stars Series. The first variation of this release was Ferrari Red while this, the 2nd variation, was released in the unpainted scheme known as ZAMAC in the Hot Wheels world.

ZAMAC is an acronym that stands for the Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, And Copper alloy that die-cast cars are made from. Unpainted cars known as ZAMAC started in 1998 as a convention exclusive. The ZAMACs of ’98 were 1998 mainline cars that were void of their standard issue paint and graphics.

Several years later, in 2004, the ZAMACs reappeared in the Hot Wheels Vending Machine at a convention as a teaser to the 2004 First Edition ZAMACs that would later appear exclusively in the cases at Toys R Us stores. These ZAMACs were void of their paint, but still featured the graphic schemes the original variations had.

In 2013, the ZAMACs reappeared as a mainline Walmart Exclusive and have continued through 2015. Popular with collectors, the ZAMAC variations are known for defining the lines of a casting in greater detail than their painted counterparts.
