FIRST LOOK at the Hot Wheels REPLAY THE CLASSICS Silver Series Multi-Pack!

Some Hot Wheels Multi-Packs are good, this one is great! The Replay the Classics Multi-Pack features seven collector-favorite castings in a #ZAMAC finish. This set is released in conjunction with the #Mattel 80th anniversary so all the vehicles have ruby red accents like graphics and wheels. To top it off, all of the vehicles feature this anniversary motif based on a previous release.

These have not have hit retail here in the United States yet — as they are expected to hit Walmart stores very soon. If you get an itchy trigger finger — like I did — you can purchase one of the several on eBay for an inflated price or you can simply wait for these to hit retail. I don’t typically buy items ahead of their impending release but even an experienced collector like myself can fall victim to the “gotta-have-its”. You’re welcome to watch the video below for a first look at this set and/or take a deeper dive with me in the rest of the article below.

Whoever selected the 7 vehicles in this set did a great job! We get a Mercedes-Benz, a Porsche, a Volkswagen — all considered “Euro” — a JDM Toyota, and three classic Hot Wheels castings from the GM family tree. The only omission seems to be Ford but that’s me reading too much into it. I’ll take a seeming “imbalance” to get two Chevy castings in the form of a #’67 Camaro and a #’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser.

’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser

Let’s start with the #’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser. This vehicle has become one of my favorite — if not THE favorite — Hot Wheels casting of all-time! It has pretty much appeared in every Hot Wheels line. According to my records, this is the 50th variant of this casting, so it’s only fitting that we get a #ZAMAC release of it’s very first deco from 2013.

’67 Camaro

The other all-time, Hot Wheels collector-favorite in this set is the #’67 Camaro. While ’67 Camaro hype has died down since the early 2010’s, that shouldn’t take away how popular this car was at it’s height. If you asked me to look at the Hot Wheels brand from 1968 to 2025 and state what the most popular casting of all-time is, I’d say it is in fact the ’67 Camaro. It’s 1995 Treasure Hunts release is still the king of all Treasure Hunts as no #Treasure Hunt has ever come close to the value of that one. The hood was sealed shut on the mainline version of this casting several years ago, but this semi-premium version — along with the premium — still features the #Opening Hood.

I can’t nail down which previous release the deco on this one is based as several releases have featured the front stripe with Camaro badging on the sides.

Hot Bird

If you go back a little further into Hot Wheels lore, there was a time when the #Hot Bird was a very popular casting. The casting pre-dates the ’67 Camaro by a handful of years, but had gone rogue before it’s resurgence. In the mid-2000’s it was one of the “Lost Cars of China” and was ultimately brought back to life by the HotWheelsCollectors.com (HWC) team — fitting for a car that features a phoenix on it’s hood. Soon after, the Hot Bird found it’s way into every Hot Wheels line and even received a tooling upgrade for it’s HWC Series 7 release in 2008. Sadly, this casting is not that version which was later used in retail lines like The Hot Ones and Entertainment.

Just like the ’67 Camaro, we’ve seen this deco before as it’s appeared on several releases of the Hot Bird so it’s hard to pinpoint which release this one is trying to commemorate.

Toyota 2000GT

The lone #JDM car in this mix is the #Toyota 2000GT. There was no questioning where this one pulls it’s graphic inspiration from. Last year’s Vintage Racing Club release in red — also in the Silver Series lineup — features the same design. This #ZAMAC release replaces the #3 in the roundel with the #Mattel 80th logo.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

When we look back at the 2020s, I wonder if we will consider the #Mercedes-Benz 300 SL one of the most popular car designs of this decade. Three different casting designs of the 300 SL exist as this one has been been used in basic & premium — with the latter having a metal chassis. On top of that, there are two ultra-premium versions of the 300 SL being used in the #Red Line Club and #Elite 64 lines. The RLC is more of a stock version of the car while the Elite 64 was created to have a more racing-inspired look like this one being used in basics/silver/premium.

It looks like the 2021 mainline release from the HW Speed Graphics series was the inspiration here. The IWC logos are removed and the font of the #68 is different, but the placement of the remaining elements are there.

Porsche 935

The #Porsche 935 is hardly the most popular Porsche, however, not including a Porsche here would have been a travesty! In the last 10 years — with the absence of Ferrari — Porsche Hot Wheels have come a long way. Some of the most memorable releases across all lines have been from the Porsche brand.

The graphics on this #Porsche 935 honor this casting’s rarest, and most iconic release: the 2022 Toy Fair release. Unfortunately, I never obtained one of these so a solo shot will have to do.

Volkswagen Drag Beetle

Okay, so not all 7 vehicles replicate a previous release — and that’s okay. The bigger deal here is that the #Volkswagen Drag Beetle returns after an 11-year absence. The last release of this casting? The 2014 Cool Classics series. Not sure where this casting has been all this time, but we see it return without missing a beat as the diecast body & diecast chassis return, complete with it’s #Opening Feature.

What are your thoughts on this set? Will you be grabbing it at retail? What is the biggest deal here? I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Please leave your comments below.

  1. As nice as this set looks there isn’t any conceivable way it’s worth $550. Sixteen cars and a case….???

Someone do the math for me. As an anniversary set I might be able to accept $100 but not $550. I personally feel they are banking on us adult collectors but also taking advantage of us…

    That’s my two cents.

  2. This is a great looking set. Has anyone heard a firm release date, price or which retailer will have these? Thanks for your time.

  3. Fantastic set! I am curious what it will retail for and I am not sure what the issue is with the distribution we have not seen any/many stores get these. I love the fact that the Gasser deco is the same as the first edition all the way back from 2013. Another great post! Cheers Brad!

  4. these just showed up in 1 WalMart locally , they are retailing at $ 24.97 , there were 7 boxes on the shelf ,
