10/18/2023 — Below are the slides from the Mattel Sneak Peeks Presentation from the 37th Hot Wheels Collectors Convention Finale. The event happened at the convention at the LAX Marriott (Los Angeles) on Saturday, October 7. This year’s presentation was narrated by Hot Wheels Design Manager, Craig Callum — a newer addition to the team. This article will cover the BASICS SNEAKS which includes the 2024 Hot Wheels Mainline and Themed Assortments. See the next article for the: PREMIUM SNEAKS.
2024 Hot Wheels Mainline (2024 New Models)
The Mo-Stash is a 2024 New Model and was designed by Craig himself — in fact, it was his first design at Mattel. He is even seen in the bottom-right of the slide utilizing the casting’s special feature: an on-demand mustache. Craig is an avid hot rodder and this design reflects his passion with a splash of personality.

Craig also did the graphics on this one which give a nod to a few of his personal race cars.

Craig also took on the “ugliest car in the world” and turned it into a GT3 racer. The Pontiac Aztek Custom is also a 2024 New Model.

He mentioned that there are a few Easter eggs in the interior which can only mean there may be a few nods to “Heisenberg” (Walter White) from the TV series, Breaking Bad. Rumor has it, Heisenberg’s signature black hat is one of them.

The next 2024 New Model is literally a slice of cake….

The Birthday Burner will clearly become the Hot Wheels birthday cake topper of choice given the theme and the fact that it has a divot on top of the engine for a birthday candle.

The 2022 Hot Wheels Legends Tour WINNER is finally immortalized as a Hot Wheels car. The “Texas Toot” Mazda Autozam had everyone wondering how it would fit into a standard mainline blister pack considering it’s monster truck stance and relatively small body, but designer/sculptor, Manson Cheung created a magnificent piece that abides by all the mainline requirements (ie. top-down assembly, four pieces, etc.) all while being true to the actual dimensions of the vehicle.

The ’87 Audi Quattro debuts in HW Turbo. The mix D release in red with chrome wheels is a great companion piece to the ’84 Audi Sport Quattro from the 2020 Factory Fresh mini collection.

Speaking of companion pieces, the Coupe Clip is no longer the only Hot Wheels keychain in the mainline. The Porsche 911 Carrera is the first licensed Hot Wheels keychain to appear in the mainline and the design really comes through with that clearcoat over ZAMAC finish — and not in my blurry pic.

The Hirohata Merc is finally once again a Hot Wheels car! It may very well be the most famous custom car of all-time as it is credited with setting forth an era that inspired custom car builders. Hell, the thing has it’s own Wikipedia page and has appeared in numerous publications. It was designed by Brendon Vetuskey and he said a future release will be recolored just like the original car for it’s silver screen debut in the 1955 movie, Running Wild.

The new tooned Mazda RX-3 continues the Noppo-inspired trend that Ryu Asada brought to the Hot Wheels brand in 2020. This one wears the same Mad Mike deco that the 2023 premium release in Team Transport has.

2024 Hot Wheels Mainline
The #Volkswagen T2 Pickup returns for 2024 in a very cool drab deco that looks to be inspired by an old German work truck.

This is the third release of the ’73 Honda Civic Custom — all of which graphic designer, Andrés Andrieu has worked on. The casting holds a special place in his heart as it was one of the first he got to work on at Hot Wheels. It was also one of the last casting’s designed by Ryu.

Godzilla graces the sides of another “Godzilla” … err, Skyline. In 2023 we saw the old R32 casting be the first Hot Wheels car to feature the classic monster. This time, the Nissan Skyline GT-R (BCNR33) wears the king of all monsters.

#Gulf Racing cars are always popular in the Hot Wheels lineup. The popular livery returns for 2024 on the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe in the Race Day segment.

The “white with whitewalls” look is always fresh — even on an old truck such as the #’52 Chevy Truck.

The thin, red stripes on the top of the Ramchargers livery is always a welcome look to any MOPAR. This time, it’s the ’68 Dodge Dart that keeps the livery collecting going.

For all the returning liveries, we do have a new one: Project Mu — a brakes manufacturer in Japan. This #’95 Mazda RX-7 will be coming out in mix J as part of the HW J-Imports.

The ’96 Porsche Carrera returns with a ’90s-inspired deco as part of the HW: The ’90s mini collection.

2023/2024 Hot Wheels Mainline (Store Exclusives)
The 2024 Hot Wheels “B” case exclusives for Dollar General are actually recolors of 2023 releases. We’ve seen this in the past but apparently they are NOT in the 2023 master set … interesting. The ’64 Lincoln Continental had sick, lowrider style deco in purple for 2023, and this Dollar General exclusive will be recolored in green.

Falken cars have become sought after as well, and this Dollar General exclusive in silver pairs the popular livery with a popular casting in the ’69 Ford Mustang Boss 302 — a natural recolor for the light blue one we saw earlier in 2023.

Queue the boo birds that don’t have a Kroger affiliate near them as this Ford GT40 in yellow will certainly ruffle some feathers between the “haves” and the “have-nots”. This yellow colorway is a recolor of the common 2024 release in white and I will be tempted to pick up multiples to help my foreign and east coast friends.

The first edition of the Volvo XC40 Recharge just started to pegs here in the US, but we already know the sophomore release will come out soon as part of mix C in 2024. This Kroger exclusive looks a little more sporty in red.

The classic #’70 Plymouth Barracuda returns in a very 1970’s-inspired, yellow colorway exclusively for Kroger stores.

The Target #Red Editions return for 2024. They will once again have the “RED” logo on them to designate them as such. This year’s lineup includes the Max Steel, Nissan Skyline RS (KDR30), ’67 Chevy C-10, and Land Rover Series II.

The Walmart Exclusive #ZAMACs also return for 2024. A slew of first timers get the bare metal treatmment collectors have come to love including the Mighty K, ’57 Jeep FC, Mustang Funny Car, and the ’92 Honda Civic EG…

…and an all-timer favorite returns 9 years after it’s first #ZAMAC release. The #’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser will once again be a ZAMAC and will once again have pink windows — and judging by the sneak, a red engine?

2024 Hot Wheels Mainline (Treasure Hunts)
We were shown 3 regular #Treasure Hunts during the Finale Presentation. The first — which will appear in mix D — is the Custom ’53 Chevy. This casting was a regular and a super Treasure Hunt in 2009 back when THs still had their own series and were easily spotted with their green stripe.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 becomes a Treasure Hunt for the first time. The flame logo may be hard to spot in this deco so keep an eye out for collectors leaving this one behind.

Larry Wood’s famed #Purple Passion is no stranger to a #Treasure Hunt lineup. It appeared in the very first series back in 1995, then again in 2005 for the 10th anniversary of Treasure Hunts. Believe it or not, it’s been nearly 20 years since that release, and it’s a Treasure Hunt once again, but the question remains: when will we finally see it as a SUPER???

2024 Hot Wheels Mainline (Super Treasure Hunts)
As far as the 2024 Super Treasure Hunts, the all-red ’89 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG will clearly be a popular (and pricey) one for 2024, judging by the reaction.

The ’71 El Camino and Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution also join the ranks…

Perhaps one of the more popular supers for 2024 will indeed be an American muscle car. This #’77 Pontiac Firebird is looking truly sinister with flashes of red joining the vehicle’s traditional black & gold color combination.

2024 Hot Wheels Themed Assortments
One of the more surprising tidbits of information unveiled is that there will be 6 new wheel styles debuting in the Themed Assortments: Modern Muscle, 5 Star, Cast 5, 5-Hole Disc, Steelie Off-Road, and Plus 4.

You can already see that these new wheels will be getting use in the first mix out of the gates for 2024.

You can also see that these mixes/segments will now carry the names of the series. These will be based on global trends & enthusiasts cultures similar to that of Car Culture or even the mainline. Hot Wagons, J-Imports, and Tubular Trucks all sound like home runs. Motorcycle Club will test the collector waters to see if Hot Wheels motorcycles can once again be popular.

Celebrations will be converted line (formerly Walmart premium) that will feature iconic OEMs and models. The first mix for 2024 will add to the Porsche hype.

The Walmart Exclusive Neon Speeders are also back for 2024. Judging by the few that were shown here and on the boards after the presentation, the line will lean heavy towards JDM collectors. The series is not limited to that however as the definition given was that these are “modern automotive and street scene” focused. Oh, and the wheel is meant to look like the Walmart logo.

Target, on the other hand, will continue it’s retro Hot Wheels vibes. The Ultra Hots will start the year (after finishing out 2023) as the nostalgic lineup of choice — complete with Ultra Hots wheels and Spectraflame paint.

Lastly, Vintage Racing Club is born. This line seems to be a sure-fire hit celebrating pre-1974 icons in racing.

Dang, seeing that 1:18 Gasser made me sad, that was going to be a killer ride 😦
The best review I’ve seen so far. Thanks for all the great contest. I’ve placed it in my phone’s home screen for ready reference during the hunt.
Thanks, Ceasar! Make sure to check out the premium one tomorrow. I went even further down the rabbit hole with details in that article. Hopefully, it helps you in your hunting!
