Collection Update: YEAR TWO of the ’87 Dodge D100 brings the casting release total to FOUR

Last July, we got our first taste of the Hot Wheels #’87 Dodge D100 as its first release was just hitting the pegs. One year later, we are four releases deep as the D100 was part of the #2019 Hot Wheels mainline / Baja Blazers series (x2), AND as part of the #Target Exclusive, #Red Edition series. Last year I wrote that I was quite fond of the “negative rake” that Hot Wheels Designer, Brendon Vetuskey instilled upon this 1980s-era Dodge Truck. That holds true today as this truck looks like it is climbing something, sitting still.

It was the HW Hot Trucks (2018 New Model) release from last year that brought back all kinds of nostalgia for me: “off-roading” 1980’s Real Riders in my sandbox. So much so, that I was in on this casting from the very beginning. For some odd reason, I like the decision to use the standard #5-Spoke Wheels versus the off-road wheel. Why? I can’t answer that, because I don’t know. Maybe I like it because I, simply do not know what the off-road wheels would look like. Time for a wheel swap, right? I digress…

Simply put: the Hot Wheels #’87 Dodge D100 is just a fun casting. This year’s MOPAR design once again taps into ’80s design, with the colorful striping patterns — and for the second straight year — featuring the ’80s Hot Wheels logo on the rear quarter panel. So, if you decide to collect this fun, new casting and its take on the ’80s off-road scene; you’ll need to be careful as you never know when a conga line could be formed at this family gathering…. errrr, too late….

  1. The 1987 dodge D100 pickup truck is a great casting. 👍I have all 4 in my hotwheels collection. 👍

  2. Awesome lineup Brad and Brendon! Can’t wait to see it with some realriders! Maybe with some oldschool knobbly tyres!

  3. The only one I didn’t have was the first one with red wheels. I came across this page and didn’t know it existed. Then i was at Giant today and what do i find, that very truck. I now have them all.
