What is #12 in the 2018 Hot Wheels (HW) 50th Race Team? (UPDATED 11/9)

The #2018 Hot Wheels mainline is essentially over — queue the master sets. We’ve seen the 2018 “Q” case cars and have already begun seeing the 2019 “A” case releases. Short of the November Kmart Collector Day Exclusives, you’re running out of opportunities for your favorite 2018 release to be recolored in that colorway you were hoping for. With that said, one of the Hot Wheels series for 2018 seems incomplete — the #HW 50th Race Team.

Hot Wheels 2018 HW 50th Race Team #1 thru #16 (no #12)

Each variant in the #HW 50th Race Team had its own individual number on it, from #1 to #16. Unfortunately (so far) only 15 variants have been released. If you check out the photo above, you’ll see that there is no #12…, so… What is #12 in the 2018 HW 50th Race Team?

To tell you the truth: I don’t know.

I wish I knew if one of those last four Kmart Collectors Day cars for the November event is the #12 car — and what it is. As a #Hot Wheels Race Team collector, its driving me crazy, and chances are, it won’t even be blue. ZAMACs, Red Editions and the other store exclusives seem finished for the year, so its got to be one of those four K-Day colorways, right???

I know at least several of you have been wondering the same thing as I have almost received this question daily for the last month or so. I will see if I can get a hold of the graphic designer of this series, this week at the Hot Wheels convention in Los Angeles. When I do get an answer — either way — I will update this page. Stay tuned…

UPDATE 10/8/2018 — While I didn’t get a chance to talk to the graphic designer who worked on this series, I did get a chance to check out the 2018 HW 50th Master Set and it was not included, which likely means it was scrapped somewhere along the way. There is still a chance however, that it is one of the November Kmart Collector Day exclusives and it just wasn’t produced in time to make the set.

UPDATE 11/9/2018 — No #12 in the HW 50th Collection Set OR in the 2018 Mainline Factory Set … also, its not a December (formerly November) Kmart Collectors Day Recolor. Suffice to say, there will be no #12 this year. 😦

  1. Awesome. I just posted this on Facebook. Asking the same question. No one understands. But you! Thanks. [image1.jpeg]

  2. I (raceteam1967) still believe this could end up being a number of things- strongest probability being a November K-days release, some other store exclusive, or possibly a multi-pack release. Whatever it is, I don’t think it will be blue, as the 10 regulars & 2 Hunts have already made their appearance (even here in Nashville) still waiting for the Zamac F-150 & recolor of the rise and climb to show up…

    • I doubt it will be any other store exclusive. Kroger has already run their exclusives (7). Same with Walgreens (1), ToysRUs (3), Walmart (all 18 Zamacs), and Target (12 Reds). November KDay is the only real probability to see the #12 Race Team release.

  3. Brad, as an update, there won’t be a #12. If you look at the box set pictures, the 50th Anniversary Race Team box set only has 15 cars.

  4. The only other 2018 Race Team car is the ’83 Chevy Silverado 50th Display Case Exclusive not numbered as 12 but it would fill the gap, In total 16 race team cars for 2018 released.
