While it certainly isn’t Hot Wheels first attempt at a lawnmower, its definitely the most recent. Included in the 2016 HW Ride-Ons series — a series that contains #Castings that are compatible with Mega Blocks — the Grass Chomper (as you can see below) is well suited for mini figure adventures in your backyard. Even the back of its blister card reveals the following information:

With its powerful twin blades and supercharged engine, the Grass Chomper will mow your lawn in no time! Fun facts: If you place a quarter behind the driver’s seat, you can pop a wheelie! You can also attach your Mega Blocks figure!

Hot Wheels Grass Chomper from the 2016 HW Ride-Ons Series (also a 2016 New Model) in Pop-a-Wheelie Mode

Thankfully, I still had my Hot Wheels figure from the 2013 San Diego Comic Con — the same one we featured with the 2013 Stunt Circuit Series Fig Rig. While the figure aspect of it was obvious, I was actually quite surprised about the quarter trick. I do have to note that the quarter is only needed for a pop-a-wheelie when you don’t have a figure. Something else noteworthy about this release is that the front of the blister card states that this model is “Great for Track”. Typically, Hot Wheels vehicles with off-road wheels don’t work well with Hot Wheels tracks but the lip on the middle of the tire tread may actually help it. I unfortunately didn’t test it out but feel free to comment below with your successes/failures of this model on the track.

The Hot Wheels Grass Chomper is made mostly of plastic with the only metal piece coming on form of the matte black steering wheel/column. While I see collectors picking up this release due to the novelty of the casting, I am not sure if future releases will be as successful. Hopefully that means more kids will get their hands on this one and take those Mega Blocks figures for a spin — or, at the very least, a pop-a-wheelie!
