Batman is one of America’s most iconic superheroes while the Dodge Viper is one of America’s most iconic sports cars so it was a nice pairing when the ’06 Dodge Viper Coupe showed up in a 2007 Hot Wheels 5-Pack titled, “Gotham City“. The matte black paint job with gray racing stripes and subtle Batman symbol on the hood simply tie the two American icons together without any sort of gaudy graphics–its a simplistic approach, but very effective in the eyes of this collector. It almost seems like this was a car designed for Bruce Wayne to drive.
The Gotham City 5-Pack had a couple variations of it as it was produced at the Hot Wheels Factory in Thailand and then in China. Other cars that could be found in this 5-Pack were the Tumbler Batmobile, Batcopter, Batcycle, Fathom This (Submarine) and a Gotham Police Department Squad Car (Saturn Ion Coupe). The Dodge Viper itself came in every iteration of the 5-Pack however the wheels on it switched 2 times after the initial release. The order of release is unclear (at this point), but the Viper with Black Open-Hole 5-Spokes (OH5) seemingly came first while the Chrome 5-Spoke (5SP) and Black 5SP came later in the run.
The 5-Pack itself stems from the 2005 movie, Batman Begins. Hot Wheels has released a lot of Batman vehicles as of late so look for them in stores under all product lines.
