#Volkswagen fans rejoice! … there is a new #Beetle in the Hot Wheels mainline. The brand-new, #’49 Volkswagen Beetle Pickup casting made its debut as part of the #2019 Hot Wheels “B” case assortments and it does not disappoint.

Much to the acclaim of Hot Wheels collectors, the Hot Wheels #’49 Volkswagen Beetle Pickup arrived in a satin blue finish sporting a “Hot Wheels Tire Shop” #Work Truck design. Collectors always seem to love a new #VW casting and this one was no different as many were scooped up fast at the pegs. It wasn’t until the “C” case assortment where you started to see these being left behind.
A Hot Wheels #Beetle #Truck seems so obvious that I wonder why this design had not been done in the past. The Hot Wheels #Volkswagen Beetle casting has been popular for the last 30 years and you can see below how the new #’49 Volkswagen Beetle Pickup casting stacks up to it. Right off the bat, you can see that the pickup is much longer than the regular Bug, but both cars remain the same scale.

The bed on the back of the #’49 Volkswagen Beetle Pickup has a nice rectangular shape to it — complete with high side panels — and if you look down into it, you’ll see a spare gas can molded into the plastic interior that extends into the truck bed. Since the #Beetle has an air-cooled, rear-mounted engine, you’ll see this also applied to the truck as well with the vertical vents that adorn the rear quarter-panel.
Fans of #VW and this new #’49 Volkswagen Beetle Pickup casting should be delighted to know that this is not the last time you’ll see it for 2019. At the Hot Wheels Collectors Convention in October, we saw that this release will be recolored red in a future case assortment.
What are your thoughts on this new casting? Was a #Beetle #Truck long overdue? It may have very well been, but no sense in worrying about that as you can pick this one up now. Its such a cool, new casting; I can’t imagine anyone not picking this one up.

Thanks for featuring this exciting new casting Brad! I’ve been anxiously hunting this since I first became aware of it! I haven’t been this excited about a mainline release in forever. I personally would love to see this come out of the HWC at some point.
Thanks Greg! Believe it or not, I had a tough time writing this. I just wanted to scream, “its just so cool!!!” … LOL
Glad they didn’t incorporate the headlights into the base as they did with the bug. It guarantees the color break, but looks strange, like they got busted out. I have mixed feelings about matte/satin finishes. They look nice, but take away from the realism I think. The card art seems to show a shinier paint job. I still picked it up because it’s so unique. I never knew this was a thing.
