Vintage Racing is back! In 2011, Hot Wheels released the Vintage Racing line. The line fizzled out before year end. The line grew a cult following and values went up after that. 15 years later, Vintage Racing returns as part of the most dominant Hot Wheels Premium line of all-time: Car Culture — which is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary.
A lot has changed in the Hot Wheels premium world over the last 15 years. It should come as no surprise to collectors that this newly-released Vintage Racing series takes a more worldly approach. We aren’t just celebrating American race cars anymore.
0/5 – Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR32)
As cool as the satin gold chase cars are to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Car Culture, this is where I would have done things differently. Can you image if we would have had a satin gold Vintage Racing livery on the R32? Image the HKS livery in all shade of gold! The car would have definitely tied into the series better.
1/5 – Jaguar XJS
The winner of the 1985 Bathurst 1000 was this Jaguar XJS. Two things here: we get a new Hot Wheels casting and a champion!
2/5 – Porsche 917K
Another new casting here comes to us in the form of the Porsche 917K. It’s a racing legend and a Hot Wheels legend so there was a need to being the 917K up in terms of collector-level quality. The casting was completely, redesigned, and built from the ground up by Hot Wheels Designer, Ron Wong. Check out the unboxing video below where I compare it to the previous Car Culture Premium Display release and the 100% Hot Wheels casting it was derived from.
3/5 – ’76 GreenWood Corvette
I am not sure if this ’76 Greenwood Corvette is based on a real race car. I have found a couple it’s similar to but not sure if it is suppose to be one of those. Either way, this Corvette looks great in red. The gold wheels are a nice touch.
4/5 – Ferrari 250 GTO
The Bianco Speciale is the only Ferrari 250 GTO painted white by Ferrari. This car has quite the following, and has even sold at auction earlier this year for $38.5 million!
5/5 – Lancia Stratos
This Group 4 beast is finally recreated in Hot Wheels form. The Alitalia Lancia Stratos is what I think of when I hear the Stratos name. Without the Alitalia license, Hot Wheels did this one as more of a tribute piece versus a recreation.
I unboxed one of these 10-count cases on the OTD YouTube Channel, and have a full Case Report for you here. 1 Stop Diecast has the case for sale now. Use the link below to get yours!

Hot Wheels Car Culture cases (FPY86) contain only 10 vehicles, unlike Hot Wheels basics cases which have 72. In this mix, you are guaranteed to get all 5 cars in the series. There are two variants of the case — with or without chase piece. In a standard case (without chase) you will get two of each vehicle. In a case with a chase, you will have the chase piece inserted for the second piece of its casting counterpart.
Below you’ll find the case list — all of which are seen in this video above and in the images below.
