The sixth iteration of Modern Classics in Car Culture is hitting stores now — and this set may be the best yet! Two new castings, a popular favorite, two newer castings with fresh decos, and there is also a Modern Classics legend returning as the chase.
Let’s start there! The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II debuted in the very first Modern Classics series for Car Culture. It has slowly become a sought-after car and remains an all-time favorite to a niche group. This all-gold chase model will certain help it’s status among the rest of you.
A new Silvia enters the fold as the ’94 NISMO 270R (S14) makes it’s debut here. From what I understand, it will only go by this name for this release because it’s deco allows it to be called a NISMO 270R. The all-black body with white graphics is authentic to the NISMO 270R. In any other deco, it’s just a customized S14.
Make no mistake that the new Ferrari Testarossa casting is the star here. Completed redesigned from the ground-up by resident exotics expert, Ron Wong, this brand-new casting has collectors feeling nostalgic. In fact, the original Hot Wheels Ferrari Testarossa was Ron’s first Hot Wheels Ferrari as a kid.
The Toyota Soarer returns for it’s third release. This time, was get a nice, clean version is this brilliant metalflake light gold (or is it green). Either way, it pairs well with the Slide Street S14 we got a couple years back.
Speaking of legends, the Porsche 993 GT2 has long been a collector favorite. That original Boulevard release continues to rise in value despite a “carry-forward” of it being released in the Car Culture 2-Packs. This one comes clean in all silver — a color that every Porsche should seemingly come in.
Lastly, the Mazda 323 GTR finally comes out in the deco it should have received for it’s first release in Boulevard. Due to costs, that didn’t happen, but we get it here. Hey there, Michelin man!

Hot Wheels Car Culture cases (FPY86) contain only 10 vehicles, unlike Hot Wheels basics cases which have 72. In this mix, you are guaranteed to get all 5 cars in the series. There are two variants of the case — with or without chase piece. In a standard case (without chase) you will get two of each vehicle. In a case with a chase, you will have the chase piece inserted for the second piece of its casting counterpart.
