2025 RLC sELECTIONs #1 RECAP; Order the ’68 Custom Plymouth Barracuda NOW!

6/3/2025 — Voting for another RLC sELECTIONs wrapped up in March, and now you can order that vehicle! The ’68 Custom Plymouth Barracuda edged out the ’61 Lincoln Continental by 175 votes in the casting round. Then, in the color round, Spectraflame Antifreeze narrowly beat Spectraflame Magenta by only 100 votes. In the final round, six wheel choices were presented. The Real Riders 5-Spoke Mag dashed neo-classics fans’ hopes and dreams as that wheel choice beat a potential return of the Neo-Classics Deep Dish wheel. Below are screenshots of the final voting.

In true RLC sELECTIONs form, this ’68 Custom Plymouth Barracuda (seen in the renderings below) will be made-to-order meaning production of the release will not start until all orders are placed. The order window closes in 2 weeks but don’t wait as RLC members who do often forget to place their orders and miss out. The production number on this one will be determined by how many are ordered. These are expected to ship on, or around, March 13, 2026.

For those that don’t know, the Hot Wheels ’68 Custom Plymouth Barracuda was originally designed by Phil Riehlman, and first released in 2023 at a dinner honoring him at the 37th Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Convention in Los Angeles. He stated, “The car is a vision of what I’d do with my ’68 notchback Barracuda if money was no object, with custom body work including flairs, rear spoiler, front spoiler, and front splitter.”

This release of Phil’s design was finalized by Hot Wheels Graphic Designer, Steve “Van” Vandervate. Van took the winning color and wheel choice and concocted this masterpiece as a nod to the Red Line era of Hot Wheels and the early days of the Red Line Club. He has designed the majority of the RLC sELECTIONs pieces since the series first started in 2004.

Below is how the voting for this RLC sELECTIONs vehicle played out. As you can see in the screenshot below, there were 5 vehicle choices for Round 1 — all previously released RLC-level castings. While the ’64 Dodge Power Wagon didn’t fare too well, the race was tight between the ’75 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, ’71 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV, ’61 Lincoln Continental, and the eventual winner, the ’68 Custom Plymouth Barracuda.

The color choice was mostly a 3-horse race between Spectraflame Antifreeze, Magenta, and Olive. Antifreeze eventually won, but only beat Magenta by 100 votes.

Wheels are always a polarizing subject on the Real Riders versus Neos scale. When the votes for Deep Dish Neo-Classics started to amass, the collectors who favor Real Riders banded together and championed the Real Riders 5-Spoke Mag to squash the chance of the Deep Dish Neo-Classic returning.

As you can see, 33,421 total votes were cast in the selection of this RLC sELECTIONs vehicle. For a list of the rest of the 2025 Red Line Club lineup, make sure to check out the OTD 2025 Master Page for RLC. OTD also has a list of all Upcoming Sales.
