Ferrari is back with the RLC Heritage Set; Explore the set and what’s next!

It’s official! Hot Wheels and #Ferrari are back together again after 10 years. It feels good to finally be able to say that! What feels even better are having the first two Ferraris since the comeback in your hands. Thanks to the team at Mattel Creations, I was able to get my hands on a set to preview for you before they begin shipping in a few weeks.

Hot Wheels has come a long way over the last 10 years. There was no Car Culture — like, at all. The Red Line Club was focused more on nostalgia that highly-detailed, ultra-premium castings, and the demand for Ferrari Hot Wheels has never been higher. Our first two vehicles — the #Ferrari 499P Modificata and #Ferrari 312 P — are released in that gorgeous RLC-level #Spectraflame Paint. Scratch that! This is actually a new spectraflame color: silver-plate bright red. We have seen Hot Wheels Ferraris in the past, but they weren’t anything like this!

There are so many directions I could take this. Before I get there, I wanted to share my raw emotion while unboxing this set. I filmed it for you below. To demonstrate how raw this really was, I even left in the part where I drop the engine cover of the Ferrari 499P Modificata. Give it a watch and it should give a little context to my words in this article.

Unlike the video, I’m going new school here and starting with the #Ferrari 499P Modificata. I bet no one saw this casting coming, yet, it feels like the perfect car to show where the RLC of today is. The detail, scale, and overall quality are impeccable. Combine those elements with some #Spectraflame Paint and some #Real Riders 10-Spoke Modern Wheels and you have yourself an authentic Hot Wheels Ferrari at the highest level. This car is insane. Shoutout to Hot Wheels Designer, Ron Wong — resident #Exotics expert — for designing this epic piece.

One may think that the 499P is the star of this set, but I beg to differ. The #Ferrari 312 P hits the nostalgic factor here in this “then & now style” heritage set. The 312 P was the first #Ferrari that Hot Wheels produced, way back in 1969. This new casting was designed with that one in mind with a few improvements. Hot Wheels designer, Brendon Vetuskey took on this challenge — as he has done before with original redline-era castings. Once again, Brendon delivered by capturing the essence of that original while adjusting proportions and adding elements like deep dish neo-classics wheels. I couldn’t have chosen a better designer myself to take on this car.

The feedback on this set from collectors has been overly positive with the only gripe coming about the price-point. At $100, I can understand. I can assure you though, that the collectors that did buy this set will be happy. I tried real hard to capture the quality and the brightness of the spectraflame. Somehow, I still failed. Personally, I’m excited for everyone that ordered one to get theirs.

As for what else is coming from Hot Wheels and Ferrari: a lot. We will see an influx of Ferrari inserted into the mainline, premium, and RLC. The first three Ferrari mainline castings have been unveiled. Make sure you check those out! Those will start hitting in the J, K, and L-case mainline case assortments for 2025. After that, Car Culture and Team Transport will net us a few more new Ferrari castings before the year is over.

  1. I bought the set solely for the 312. It looks great and I guess the only way I’m going to get neo’s on a car these days. I’ve never even heard of the other car.

    • Exactly! Love the 312 and I have a late 60’s model & an early 70’s model as well. Not set on the new model too much, but I thought I saw somewhere the maybe the 312 may be released again in solo form, but this may be a rarity with those cool NEO’s!!! 👍

    • Personally, I think it’s a great “Then & Now” style set. You get the very first Hot Wheels Ferrari retooled to be way better than the original, plus a new casting of it’s modern day equivalent. There are several “Then & Nows” in this set and the wheels are another.

  2. Was this set what those Mattel Creations hint boxes that were sent out to content creators were alluding to?

  3. Thanks, Brad, for the great write up! Glad that folks are liking this set. The package came out really well, too
