2/20/2024 — The Daniel Arsham X Hot Wheels continues to erode on. Last Saturday, Daniel Arsham made his way to Los Angeles for a special collaboration pop-up shop. There, he was greeted by Hot Wheels designers, Eric Han, Andrés Andrieu, Charlie Angulo, Craig Callum, and Ron Wong — and of course, the lifesize (1:1) versions of the two cars being showcased.
Lap 1 was the first drop in this series contained the Eroded Porsche 930 and the Eroded Rodger Dodger. Lap 2 contained the next two vehicles — the Eroded Deora II and the Arsham Porsche 356 Bonsai. All of the items so far have an eroded look, making it seem as though they are some sort of relic unearthed from a future archeological site. That (sort of) continues with Lap 3 as we are introduced to the Eroded Twin Mill. The second car, however, isn’t a relic. It is Daniel Arsham’s own Porsche 930A.
Arsham Porsche 930A
Arsham, a known fan of 1:1 Porsches, has chosen a third Porsche (in as many laps) to be featured in this collaboration. This time, it’s the Porsche 930A — not eroded, like the one in Lap 1. This one receives the same livery as Arsham’s 1:1 Porsche which is done with ’80s style graphics. Even the interior is done to replicate the 1:1’s original Italian leather and stonewashed canvas upholstery.
Specs from Mattel Creations PORSCHE 930A sale page:
In his second collab with Porsche, Daniel Arsham rebuilt a 1986 Porsche 930 (the turbocharged version of the Porsche 911) and gave it a livery inspired by a 1980 entrant at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For part 3 of his collaboration with Mattel Creations, Arsham adapted that design, using a similar color scheme and swapping the previous corporate logos for Arsham-specific ones. Look closely, and you’ll spot a “3020 Rallye Monte-Carlo” badge, too – setting this car up for a time-bending future discovery.

Eroded Twin Mill
Another Hot Wheels original design gets the Daniel Arsham eroded treatment. This time, it’s the #Twin Mill. The Eroded Twin Mill is cast from a pale pink silkstone and features those iconic crystalized erosions.
Specs from Mattel Creations ERODED TWIN MILL sale page:
We partnered with Daniel Arsham to curate a series inspired by Hot Wheels and our mutual love of car culture. The Twin Mill, first released in 1969, is one of the first-ever “Hot Wheels Originals” designs, not based on any real-world car. The unique color comes from Arsham’s artistic palette and matches the tone of his other works. The result shows how unexpected the effects of time can be.

- Body Color: Arsham Pink

- Wheels: Arsham pink Real Riders 5-spoke classic wheels

Each model will again come attached to a marbleized plinth surrounded by an acrylic case. These are meant to slot inside the eroded Hot Wheels Super Rally Case (resembling the 1968 version) sold with the Porsche 930. The case is meant to hold all 8 vehicles in this artist series in their acrylic cases. With the Porche 930A and the Eroded Twin Mill, there will only be two more vehicles (presumably in 1 additional lap) until we have our complete set. See photo from Lap 1 below.
This collaboration is a huge step for Mattel Creations which goes beyond decorating existing castings with new graphics. These silk stone castings are a first for the brand and the eroded elements make it clear this is a Daniel Arsham piece — merging the Hot Wheels collecting world with that of contemporary art.
Here is the pricing and links for LAP 3 of the collection (available 2/23/2024):
- Eroded Twin Mill — $70
- Porsche 930A — $70

the porsche is really well done. I am more interested in the repro track though, it would be great to see the original dual and single lane curves brought back, as well as the old skool loop sets and trestles.
Why is everyone so obsessed with these lil cars that can’t take you anywhere….. Buy a really nice car you can take your awesome other out on the town with!
I’m absolutely excited for this pair. I’m a huge Twin Mill fan as well as huge fan of the Rodger Dodger, so these choices are hitting home for me. I also have a wonderful collection of Porsches and these have all been amazing! This next one being the absolute best of the bunch!
