A look back at 20 years of the Red Line Club; My TOP 3 HWC/RLC releases of all-time!

Recently I was asked by the Mattel Creations team at Mattel to write an article that reflected back on the 20+ years of the Red Line Club and HotWheelsCollectors.com for the RLC 20th Anniversary. I was also asked to give my TOP 3 HWC/RLC releases of all-time. While my favorites often change on a week-to-week basis, I pick 3 of the most impactful releases of the last 20 years.

You can view the article on HotWheelsCollectors.com (Mattel Creations) now: 20 Years of RLC by Brad Bannach.

In the HWC article I cover how I initially found HotWheelsCollector.com and how it impacted my collecting as a chance to connect with other collectors around the world 24/7. I also cover how HWC (and the RLC) have evolved over the last 20 years from the “we still make them like we used to” early days to sELECTIONs, Pink “party cars”, the “mirrorized era”, and the last couple of years where opening parts and innovation have been at the forefront of an ultra-premium product.

Please take the time to read the full article and let me know in the comments there what you think!

  1. I saw a big turning point in the 2018 year of sELECTIONs. That’s when the Mattel designers, seem to have been more involved with the project and with the models being created. No longer was it us the “collectors” and them the “designers”. Just like the pink Candy Striper Gasser was a milestone in 2014. I think that the ‘69 Dodge Charger R/T with the “Hellephant” engine was another huge milestone for the RLC brand. The models coming out since 2018, have been a true engineering and design marvel. Having the sELECTIONs series available, allows us collectors to “design” our own version. As a customizer of HW’s, this is a dream come true. Thanks Brad for a great article!
