8/23/2018 — It looks as though the liquidation of another 13 Kmart stores (along with 33 Sears-branded stores) will begin next week per an article posted on CNBC’s website. Not really a shock at this point as one has to wonder how many Kmart stores are actually left. Where this affects Hot Wheels Collectors — especially those that attend Kmart Collectors Day Events at these locations — is that details about the rumored September Kmart HW Collectors Day should be announced soon, and these stores will most likely not hold the event.

I am not surprised. Just really sad. When they closed my favorite Kmarts that I was lucky at I only went to 2 other events and stopped going in the mid 2000’s ,because I was not able to find anything worth my time. I just hope Targets and or Walmart’s take up the slack. Please do not get me wrong, I was very lucky at the beginning then I stopped. After I lost interest.
I believe Walmart is going to start picking up the slack. There was a recent event at my local Walmart here in phoenix, AZ. All the Kmart recently closed in the phoenix Metro, I’ve only lived here for a few years and was able to go to a few of the stores but never an event. I do believe there is one still open and not on this list in Tuscon.
What Walmart in Phoenix had a collectors event? I live in PHX too. I heard of one happening in Las Vegas, but not in Phoenix.
