It seems as though the Hot Wheels #Ford Escort Rally casting has undergone a little bit of a face-lift for 2017. First introduced in 1998, the Escort Rally’s top-mounted plastic spoiler has been moved to the trunk, and is now cast as part of the metal body for this 2017 HW Snow Stormers 5-Pack release. In addition to receiving what I could only assume is a more favorable spoiler placement in the eyes of collectors, this new, re-tooled Escort Rally received some satin blue paint for this release — a paint that is known for really highlighting the lines of well-designed castings.
As veteran collectors probably already assumed, the base for this 2017 release has also been updated. Two rivets hold the base/body together versus the one which is seen below on the 2005 Hot Wheels Racing release (right). More room was also added for all the legal information that needs to adorn the base nowadays, along with an updated Hot Wheels logo.
Overall, this is a great reintroduction of a retooled casting. The #Ford Escort Rally casting seemed to disappear after its 2012 Team Hot Wheels / High-Speed Wheel release, which has proven to be quite rare, as many assumed the tool had been lost or destroyed in the process. Although that is not entirely out of question, its great to see this casting reemerge with this satin paint and a cool #Rally Car paint scheme. And considering its winter, this release couldn’t have hit retail at a better time. Going forward, if 2017 is anything like 2016 in terms of #5-Pack Exclusive vehicles being retooled, we will keep you updated on any more of these casting changes as they come.
