Retro Style Series: ’87 TOYOTA PICKUP

This is the final vehicle in our 4-part series on the #Target Exclusive Hot Wheels Retro Style Series (for now). We’ve already took an in-depth look at the series along with three cars that are in it — Volkswagen SP2, Power Pipes and the ’84 Hurst Olds. So naturally, our last look at the series will be from a high as we pan out on the only truck in the first wave of the series, the ’87 Toyota Pickup.

Like the ’84 Hurst Olds from yesterday, the Hot Wheels ’87 Toyota Pickup casting was introduced in Hot Ones series of 2012. It was immediately a hit with collectors as they had already started clamoring for the Back to the Future version of it. That wish was granted in 2014 as the truck received a licensed Back to the Future release as part of the Hot Wheels Entertainment line. Post BTTF release, this truck isn’t garnering the attention of collectors it once had, but once again, thats okay — it makes it easier for the rest of us to find.

Released in metalflake dark purple for the brand-new Retro Style release, one can imagine if this truck had actually been released in the Real Riders period of the 1980s as this thing would have looked great with Real Riders tires and a metal base. Still, this #Lifted Truck still looks to fit the era with its retro lime green flames and stripes outlined in a bright purple.

The only negative? That green windshield.

The Hot Wheels Retro Style Series is in stores now so look for this one at your local Target — if you’re Canadian, make some American friends (no more Targets in Canada) by trading the Hot Wheels Car Culture cars that are littering the pegs at your local Walmart while United States collectors anxiously await the domestic release of the series.

  1. For whatever reason, my Target doesn’t have them. Not on the pegs. And no end cap. Bummer.
