HW Art Cars: VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE

The 2015 “Regular” Treasure Hunts consisted of 15 castings. It would not be a stretch (by any means) to say that this VW Bug from the HW Art Cars Series is the most popular casting/release of the 15 this year. Full of #Unlicensed Hot Wheels, the 2015 Treasure Hunts (TH) did not appeal to the majority if collectors prompting many of them to leave the THs behind “for the next collector” or “for the kids”.

One that did not get left behind, or at least my case, was the Volkswagen Beetle — the only licensed car out of the 15 regular THs! Despite the mis-matched colored tires, collectors loved the hippie “peace-symbol” design and the fact that the Beetle was pink, a popular color with collectors dating back to the scarcity of redline-era pink cars.

This Hot Wheels VW Bug was originally released in 1989 and has steadily been released to this day. It was designed by Larry Wood and is modeled after a mid-1950s Volkswagen Beetle. It features the “Hot Wheels Rake” similar to the Custom Volkswagen releases of 1968.
