This case of Hot Wheels Pop Culture will be forever known as the Gran Turismo Porsche mix! Four out of the ten vehicles in this case (40%) are the Gran Turismo ’22 Porsche 911 GT3 RS — nearly half the case! That bodes well for collectors at retail. With two repeats and an odd choice, collectors have definitely started hoarding the GT Porsches from this case. It’s a new casting from a movie that is based on one of the best selling video games of all-time.

Yes, there are three more releases in this mix, Rick’s Ship (Rick and Morty) and the BTTF Time Machine – 1955 (Back to the Future Part III) are carry forwards. I assume the only people buying these are more fans of those entertainment properties versus your average Hot Wheels & diecast collector. Give Mattel credit, these do seem to move so they must be doing something right with these carry forwards.

The other release in this case is the MTV ’84 Corvette. The ’80s Corvette was retooled as the ’84 Corvette a couple years back. This retooled version of the casting gets a metal base for the first time. Contrary to what I said in my unboxing, MTV did not fully shut down. Just the music channels did. It appears MTV is moving towards being more of a streaming platform which shouldn’t really come as a surprise these days. The brand — which is loudly announced on this Corvette — harkens back to the “good ol’ days” which MTV played round-the-clock music videos.
