Hot Wheels #Pop Culture has been known for it’s carry-forwards and re-issues. In 2025 Mix 3 — the “J” case — we see 3 carry-forwards (exact repeats), 1 new release, and 1 re-issue — it’s that re-issue that’s the star though!

You may be asking how a re-issue can be a star, correct? Well, this re-issue — the #’79 Dodge Ram Van from Old School — is a brand-new, Hot Wheels casting that was designed to specifically replicate the van used in the film. Whereas, the previous release of the Dodge van from Old School (2003) utilized the existing Hot Wheels Custom ’77 Dodge Van casting. I love the #Custom ’77 Dodge Van, but even as a collector of the casting, I much prefer the tooling of a brand-new, casting in this case that more authentically replicates the van from the movie. Make sure to watch my unboxing below as I closely compare the two while providing closeups (loose) of the other vehicles in this mix.

Before we get to the new release, let’s at least mention the 3 carry-forwards. The #Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR34) from Gran Turismo 7, Ford Super De Luxe from Back to the Future (1985), and Deadpool Scooter have all been released in recent years. All good releases but it’s the frequency at which these are released that make some collectors continue to shun this line.

Lastly, #Pop Culture mainstay — the #’66 Dodge A100 — returns to the line with a new Masters of the Universe deco. The mural of an epic fight scene between Skeletor and He-Man is accompanied by some ’70s/’80s van graphics.
