Tutorial for building the METRICS Single Acrylic Case for standard Hot Wheels

METRICS PH is a American company run by fellow Hot Wheels collector, Chris Hernandez. He makes a variety of high-end, custom acrylic cases that fit all kinds of packaged (and loose) Hot Wheels. Chris recently sent over his newest design: the METRICS Single Acrylic Case for standard Hot Wheels engraved with the Hot Wheels Legends Tour logo. Chris also spends time in the Philippines — hence the “PH” at the end of METRICS PH. He organizes the collector convention there and will have some big news related to that soon.

Since Chris is affiliated with the Hot Wheels Philippines, he helps out with the #Hot Wheels Legends Tour there; and was able to also send the 2024 Legends Tour Exclusive: #Kool Kombi in spectraflame pink. The acrylic case came flat in the package, and wrapped in plastic. Since this is a new product, Chris admitted to me that he is still refining it. I mentioned that it would be helpful for it to come with instructions as it took me 30 minutes to put it together only to discover that I had leftover pieces. Chris pointed out to me that I had assembled it wrong so I decided to break in down and make an online tutorial for anyone that is looking to purchase this acrylic case from him.

STEP 1: Identifying the items in the set

Your plastic-wrapped set will come with the above pieces. You will use them all. The acrylic will all be wrapped with some additional plastic on the surface to help prevent scratches in transit. Peel that off the front and back of every piece to allow for the crystal-clear acrylic shine you likely bought the case for.

STEP 2: Inserting the pins

Make sure you correctly identify the left side from the right side. I’m not sure if the logos will remain the same on every set so look for the pin holes. Those should be closest to the back and will help you determine which is the left versus the right side. Take your 4 pins and insert 2 through the left side piece and 2 through the right side piece. These will hold the blister card in-place against the back of the case.

STEP 3: Attaching the sides with screws & threads

Time to add the first screw. Put the screw through both adjoining pieces and place the thread in the cross-like shape with the arc side facing out. You’ll need 4 screws and 4 threads to assemble the frame.

STEP 4: Assembling the frame

As you can see above, 1 screw and 1 thread go in every corner of the frame that consists of both side pieces and the top & bottom.

STEP 5: Attaching the front cover

Next, you’ll want to assemble the FRONT cover first. You’ll need 6 screws and 6 threads to be able to do so.

STEP 6: Inserting the packaged item

Before you finish building your METRICS acrylic case, you’ll want to insert the item you’re looking to showcase. I chose to insert the #Kool Kombi that Chris sent since the case has the Legends Tour logo on it. You want to make sure it rests flat on the 4 pins.

STEP 7: Attaching the back cover

Once you’ve squarely fit your item into the case, you can attach the back cover. Just like the front cover, the back will also require 6 screws and 6 threads — finishing off the items included in the kit. You can take the provided wrench and chuck it in your Allen wrench stash, but you may want to keep it close to where you display your cars in case you feel the need to swap out this piece in the case for another.

STEP 8: Admire the finished product

Time to stop and smell the roses: YOU’RE DONE! It took me 30 minutes to build this the first time around with no instructions. Of course I did it wrong, but still — even with the practice — it took me 20 minutes to build it from scratch the second time. The end piece is stunning and certainly highlights any standard size carded Hot Wheels in your collection. Make sure to check out the METRICS PH Facebook page for now. I am told a site is to come. Also, keep an eye out for METRICS products at the Hot Wheels conventions in Los Angeles & Manila, and this weekend’s Nationals in Atlanta!

    • Hey Rick! I am being told the web site is in the works. Chris said you can Direct Message him through the METRICS PH Facebook page OR on Instagram. In addition, if you’re at Nationals in Atlanta this weekend, he is also selling at the Toy Show on Sunday.
